Black Steak

I love Steak. I don't mean to. I know it isn't good for you but oh Steak is heavenly for me. BBQ it, cook it under the broiler, pan fry it! Mmmm...It's all good. If the brats are home, I keep it simple. They are not into sauces on a steak. But if it is just us grown ups at home, then I like to play it up! My brats are getting older and I can guarantee at least one of them will not be home on a Friday night!

You are probably wondering why I call this Black Steak? The Ballplayer...who wont touch the sauce but when he saw the steak covered could not hold back calling it Black Steak. "I am NOT eating Black Steak!" The wine reduces and mixed with the brown mushrooms just makes this dark sauce. It is not black but the name stuck and my photographs just dont do it justice!

The Fireman loves this sauce next to potatoes. Must be a man thing! Meat and Potatoes. I'm there!

Black Steak

3-4 Steaks (pick what you like...I'm a Ribeye girl and The Fireman is a Strip Steak!)
1/2 Cup butter (real butter!)
1 cup Button Mushrooms sliced
3-4 cloves of garlic chopped finely
1 Green Onion chopped
1 Onion sliced
1 1/2- 2 cups Cabernet Sauvignon or Merlot wine (pick a red wine you would drink)
Salt and pepper (You can use your favorite steak seasoning or if you are a Central Coast girl, break out the Susie Q)
1 TB butter

In a frying pan melt the butter over medium high heat. Add Mushrooms, onions and green onions. Cook them until the are brown. I like a little color on my onions and mushrooms.

Season up steaks. Be generous!

At the same time, in another frying pan, Pan fry your steaks. Cook them until desired doneness. I like mine to moo at me a little. The Fireman wants his to be dead...it's not pretty!

Carefully pour in the wine and let cook for a couple minutes. Scrape the bottom of the pan! You want all those flavors.

The wine should reduce (really the mushrooms suck it all up, yum) If there isn't enough sauce for your tastes, add more wine and let it cook more.
Add one more TB butter. Just do it!

Pour over your steaks! Ooh and Ahh a little...it's necessary!

Oh my gosh! I love steak too, Ribeyes and filets, hubby likes Strip Steak. It must be a man thing also. We usually have them on the grill but I will have to try this. Love the sound of that sauce! Thanks!

That looks SO good!! I like mine to moo a little, too. My wife likes hers well-done, so I ask her why not just have beef jerky instead? You can be sure that I will try this recipe, but I'll might add some crushed peppercorns to the sauce to add a little bit more spice.
Thanks again, this looks great!

Yum! I'm a ribeye gril too. In fact, when I was preggers with my son, I CRAVED STEAK! Serious cravings that had to be eased by eating ribeyes every weekend. And the ones at the local Golden Corral did NOT cut it, unfortunately, my cravings were for Longhorn and the like :)
