I'm No Sissy Burger!

I have been neglecting my food blog. I know it. I have been getting emails and messages. My son even said something sort of rude. I don't let him lag on his responsibilities yet I have just had nothing nice to say. Food is a comfort item for me. I haven't even wanted to cook really. You know I am really mad at the world if I dont want to cook. But I am coming out of it. I have been cooking and The Fireman has been taking pictures for me so when my mood passes I can put it on paper or here rather.

Last night was The Little Ballplayers first game. It was cold as the North Pole. Well, I am exaggerating just a tad. But how is it that Mother Nature knows that baseball and windy cold weather go together? When I think of baseball, I think of Saturday games and warm BBQs after wards. This weekend I made my families favorite burgers. It screams I'm No Sissy! Bacon! Grilled Onions! Huge Patty! Homemade Secret sauce dripping down your arms. And if that's not enough, let's add a dark Irish beer! There's no room for vegetables on this burger and the grilled onions don't count as vegetables. The Tortured Teenager likes to tell me that the oven fries count as veggies but that is just wishful thinking. The Little Ballplayer can put away a whole burger. The Tortured Teenager used to but she is more concerned about her figure these days so she only takes half now. I'm no Sissy! So I go full glory!

I like to carmelize the onions. The kids like them burnt. Then I transfer them to a bowl and guard them for dear life. They will get picked off!

Then the Bacon is next. I toss it on a baking pan and put it in the oven 425 for about 10-15 minutes. Keep an eye on it. I've burned it before and the dog has had it for dinner. I prefer cooking it this way. Less mess, I dont get burned. Transfer it to paper towels and again guard for life!
I make a secret sauce. Mine is equal parts Ketchup to mayo. I like it with relish too but the kids make it no secret that it's not their favorite. I have used store bought Thousand Island but this is doesn't have that sweet vinegar taste. Two TB of each makes enough for four burgers.
