Snickerdoodles

I didn't grow up with snickerdoodles. My Gram made every other cookie under the sun but I think these may have been too plain for her taste. She liked cookies that were full of nuts and chips. So when a dear friend put these in a Christmas basket, I went crazy. My family went crazy. I had to have the recipe. And as sweet as she is, she passed it along on a nice piece of stationary that will not be trashed as soon as the recipe make the blog. It has been a family favorite and made over and over. I double the cinnamon topping recipe. It makes waste but I feel I need more to roll in.

1 1/2 cups sugar
1/2 cup butter softened
1 tsp vanilla
2 eggs
2 3/4 cups flour
1 tsp cream of tarter
1/2 tsp baking soda
1/4 tsp salt
4 TB sugar
4 TB cinnamon
Preheat oven to 400

So start by creaming the sugar and butter. The Fireman has been trying to buy me a Kitchenaide mixer for years. Eventually this little mixer will break and I will cave into The Fireman's demand. until then, my little putt putt blender works fine (knock on wood)
See, all mixed
Now add the eggs
Nice and creamy
I am not very formal, I add half the flour and all the baking soda and cream and tarter. If you like to be more formal and mix all your dry ingredients in a bow, go ahead. I'm in a hurry

Keep adding your dry ingredients until all added. Dont over mix. I did learn that from Gram. It makes hard cookies
Ok so our dough is mixed
Time to make some cinnamon sugar. Mix equal parts sugar and cinnamon. Resist the urge to stop cookie process and make toast
I like to scoop all my cookies at once using a mini ice cream scoop. The Tortured Teenager was home so I tortured her with helping me
Keep a fork handy to fight hungry teenage boys away. Fireman too
Ok so, we have all our cookies scooped, now its time to get some cinnamon sugar on these babies
I'm not sure if this is how my friend does it, but I like to roll the whole cookie in the mixture

yummy. You can see which ones are done and which ones I need to do

Into the oven, a preheated oven 400 for 8-10 minutes. Dont over cook them. They are best if a little soft and chewy
see a little soft in the middle. Oops now this one has a dent in it. Guess I have to eat it!

Let cool

Thanks Denise!!
