My Family's Favorite Carne Asada Tacos

I always tweaking my recipe for Carne Asada trying to recreate that flavor I first tasted almost 25 years ago. Oh sure I could just ask somebody but it's fun playing around.

A couple of weeks ago I tried Ponzu Chicken tacos for the first time. It was OK. Tasty but not carne asada. I'm a red meat girl as much as I try to stay away from it. I figured I would try the ponzu with beef, a little garlic, a little vinegar and then grilled and stuffed in a tortilla. The Fireman and I will be having ours as a salad since we are watching our carbs. Wish I was watching those carbs go into my mouth. No matter what people say, I miss carbs. I don't miss the extra pounds that a food blogger gains though.

After tweaking, my family and I agree that this is the carne asada recipe!! The flavor was perfect. The Fireman didn't complain it was too limey (how could he??) and the kids didn't complain it was too tough or lacked flavor. Rarely is my entire family happy. Tonight was one of those nights.

My Family's Favorite Carne Asada Tacos
3 pounds of sirloin steak or flank steak sliced thinly
1/2 cup ponzu
1/3 cup white vinegar
3-4 cloves of garlic minced
1 TB oil

Mix all in a bowl. Let sit for at least an hour.

Season both sides with
1 teaspoon salt
1 teaspoon ground black pepper
1 teaspoon garlic powder
1/2 teaspoon chili powder
1 teaspoon ground cumin
1 teaspoon smoked paprika
This is A LOT of seasoning and quite strong. Put it in a seal-able container and go easy with it.

Heat up your grill pan or the BBQ. I like to oil the grill. Heat it till smoking hot. Cook meat. I'm cooking completely but only because The Fireman is close by and complaining that it needs to be cooked thoroughly. If he was say out of the room, I could guarantee that I would cook it medium.

Then transfer to a cutting board. Let rest for a minute or two. Try to keep the family away from it. I like to take a knife through it. That's just me though.

I like to serve on warm crispy (not deep fried) tortillas with fresh cilantro, (instead of lettuce) cheese, avocado, and my homemade salsa. A squeeze of lime, thinly sliced radishes would make it perfect. Unfortunately I don't have those last two items but it was prefect none the less
